Maple leaves on a Portland autumn day.  Their striking colors arouse a deep sense of pleasure.



John's Dahlia...

My neighbor's yard is tended with great tenderness & loving care.  This dahlia spoke to me last year and here's it's expression as a mandala.

"Aven's Clouds" mandala

A reminder to Aven to make friends with the clouds as they play and to remember those days when she's older.

This picture is the inspiration of the mandala above.

This mandala was made for Aven, a soon-to-be-born little girl who has a special place in my heart.

• I am fascinated with emerging fern fronds, looking like some prehistoric beings as they unfurl to mutate into sword-like greenery.

An emerging peony among the dirt & weeds expresses itself as a spring-green mandala, very nicely I might add!

Cherry Blossom mandala...

I snapped this picture on a moment's notice...just looked up to the sky and there it was.  The blossoms are so pale & delicate...they make me feel all girly!

Nasturtium Greenery mandala...

This mandala has a very celtic feel to me...quite earthy (and apparently I'm loving orange lately, which is really one of my least favorite colors!)

Fuzzy Orange Dahlia mandala...

The simplicity of this dahlia mandala surprised me.  The original photo is so much busier!

White Rhodie mandala...

The rhodedendron that this mandala emerged from is actually pink.  It just goes to show you that you never quite know how a mandala wants to express itself.  This one was very forceful and knew exactly how it wanted to appear.

I think it's pretty self-explanatory.

"Aster Madness" mandala...a fuzzy flurry of Fall flowers (don't ask me why I'm thinking of Fall on a lovely Spring day!)

Idaho Pine...

I just returned from a few days in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho (I should have looked up the spelling first!).  The pine trees there are different from what I'm used to.  Of course I had to take pictures of the trees since they are one of my favorite things.  Here's the  mandala from the trip and the photo it is derived from.

Jade Green...

This jade plant has been with me for many years.  Long ago it appeared to be outgrowing its potted home but it continues to thrive, year after year, in its very close & confined space and seems to be very happy indeed.  I don't find this photo particularly attractive but look what has come out of it...a lovely jade green mandala.

"Water Bubble Eyes" Mandala...

Water Bubble Eyes...strange name for this mandala.  The picture it was created from is shown at the right.  It's our pond in the backyard.  Those blue bubbles look like eyes peering from all directions.  Sorry I couldn't quite fit the koi into the mandala.  Maybe next time. 

Two mandalas from the same source...

These two mandalas come from the same source...my photo of a winter pansy residing on my front porch.  That is some fortitude...braving the chills of winter and still exhibiting its fabulous colors!
